There are several ways to categorize a hurricane as being the worst in history. Hurricanes can be categorized as worst in terms of deaths, highest wind speed, costliest and lowest barometric reading. The lowest barometric readings usually indicate the most intense hurricanes. These are the most intense hurricanes in U.S. history which include Hurricane Andrew of 1993 and Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
